Further spells of rain and wind is forecast for Shropshire today as another weather system crosses the southern-half of the UK.

Further rain and winds forecast for Shropshire today

The rain will push into the UK from the south-west during Friday morning, moving quickly north eastwards.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office with up to 25 millimetres of rain expected. The rain could fall as snow over the higher ground of south Shropshire. The warning is in force until 6am on Saturday.

Winds of up to 50pmh are forecast especially in exposed locations.

The clean-up operation is ongoing following Wednesday’s powerful storm which saw thousands of homes left without power and damage to buildings.

Around 700 homes today remain without power in North West Shropshire. Work to repair a school roof in Shrewsbury is also continuing after the winds lifted the roofs metal sheeting.

Flood barriers in Shrewsbury and Ironbridge are set to remain in place over the weekend as river levels react to the rain.
