Extra police will be on duty in Shrewsbury today for the League One football derby match with Port Vale.

Extra police on duty for Shrewsbury v Port Vale match

The kick-off has been brought forward to 1pm at the request of the police and Shrewsbury Town FC.

A precautionary pitch inspection took place at 8.15am and the game was given the go-ahead.

Chief Inspector Mel Crowther, in charge of policing for the match, said: “We are urging supporters to arrive in good time. It is an all-ticket fixture for Port Vale fans and there is no point anyone travelling without a ticket as they will not be sold to away supporters on match day.

“There will be a significant police presence inside the ground as well as on the approaches and around the town itself. We have sufficient officers available to deal with anyone causing trouble.

“Anyone intent on causing disorder will be dealt with robustly to ensure supporters of both sides and other members of the public can go about their business without disturbance.”
