Newport development given go-ahead by Secretary of State
A planned housing development in Newport can go ahead after Telford & Wrekin Council received confirmation from the Department for Communities and Local Government.
The scheme for 350 homes in Station Road had already been given permission by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Planning Committee in Decembe, subject to the Secretary of State’s confirmation.
The new development will include affordable housing to benefit the local community. It also includes 11 acres of employment land.
Councillor Charles Smith, cabinet member for Housing, Development and Borough Towns, said: “I welcome this decision which means that the planned housing development in Newport can now proceed.
“This confirms and reinforces the previous statement by the council that it is government policy to approve whenever possible the delivery of new housing and it remains government policy to ensure as many new homes are built as possible.
“We are committed to increasing growth and boosting the economy of the borough and developments like this can only help us achieve that.”
