Arrests made as part of multi-agency operation in Telford
Six people were arrested during a multi-agency operation that took place in Telford yesterday.
Operation Wave saw a number of different teams from West Mercia Police work alongside several agencies including the local council, Trading Standards, VOSA, the DVLA and HMRC.
The arrests were made in relation to a number of offences including production of Class B drugs, assault, going equipped and also driving while disqualified, while four other people took part in voluntary interviews.
Three men arrested on suspicion of going equipped remain in custody at the present time, while the other individuals have either been released on bail or dealt with by way of an official warning.
In addition, as a part of a taxi licensing operation, 25 taxis were examined and in total 10 licences were revoked, while 16 taxis were taken off the road due to having serious defects.
Speaking about the success of the operation, and giving further details, Superintendent Nav Malik, Police Commander in Telford said:
“We’re really satisfied with how Operation Wave has gone and it’s been really pleasing to see all the agencies come together for this day of action.
“Days like this are important as it allows us to bring resources together to tackle issues that we don’t always get time to target as much as we’d like to. It is important that we demonstrate we are willing to investigate driving offences and the illegal use of motor vehicles because those people that ignore the law do cause problems for law abiding citizens in our area.
“In addition to the driving offences we have detected, other work saw us seize various drugs related items as a result of warrants we did while we also found a small cannabis cultivation set-up at one address we searched in Madeley.
“Another pleasing result was the fact we seized a significant number of counterfeit DVDs and CDs from an address in Woodside we visited with Trading Standards and once the owner of that property is traced they can expect to be prosecuted in relation to these items.
“Finally, I’d just like to take the opportunity to thanks everyone who helped make Operation Wave such a success yesterday and reassure people that this operation was not just a one off. We will continue to focus on many of the issues we targeted yesterday and I’d like to remind local people that if they have any concerns about criminality in their area they should call us immediately on 101.”
