Rick Astley is to headline the 80s party night at T-Live 2014, when he performs in the Town Park Arena on Friday 29 August.

Rick Astley to headline T-Live 80s party night

Rick is added to the bill of this year’s two day T-Live show – following the announcements of Lawson and Union J, who will be playing on Saturday 30 August.

He exploded on to the music scene in 1987, when his trademark rich tone and soulful delivery saw him become an overnight pop sensation.

Debut single Never Gonna Give You Up was an instant hit – soaring to number one in the UK in the space of two weeks and going on to be number one in 16 other countries worldwide.

The next two years saw Rick dominate the charts around the globe, spending every week of the first six months of his career in the UK Top 40.

He still holds the record of being the only male solo artist to have his first eight singles reach the UK Top Ten.

“We are truly proud to have an artist of Rick Astley’s reputation and ability signed up to grace the stage at the second T-Live,” said Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet spokesman for T-Live, Councillor Shaun Davies.

“Having the event take place over two days enables us to broaden T-Live’s appeal and Rick Astley is a fantastic choice of headliner for our 80s party night on Friday August 29.

“Saturday will be a night of more current acts and we have already announced two great bands in the shape of Lawson and Union J. We are looking forward to an excellent event and there will be more exciting announcements to come in the coming weeks, including more acts.”

Tickets for both nights are now on sale and can be booked by calling the box office on 01952 382382 or online www.theplacetelford.com Tickets can also be bought in person at the Oakengates Theatre @ The Place box office.
