Twenty firefighters tackle blaze at Shifnal home
Firefighters have spent the day at a home in Shifnal after a fire broke out at the terrace property in Broadway this morning.

At 7:05am fire control received a call reporting a fire, two appliances were initially sent to the scene including an officer from Telford. The first appliance arrived at the scene within five minutes.
On arrival, firefighters were confronted by smoke issuing from the first floor windows of the brick built two storey terraced house.
Specialist trained firefighters made an assessment of the risks and severity of the fire before entering the property wearing breathing apparatus using a thermal imaging camera, hose reels and a main jet to tackle the blaze. Gas and electrical supplies were isolated.
At the height of the incident there were approx 20 fire fighters in attendance. The Aerial Ladder Platform from Shrewsbury was used to access the roof space and to ensure the fire had not spread into neighboring properties.
To offer some support the Fire and Emergency Support Service vehicle run by British Red Cross volunteers was also sent to this scene. The volunteers were able to give the occupiers blankets, a warm place to sit and some support and comfort following the serious fire that had left their home uninhabitable.
One young male adult sustained minor burns which were treated by West Midlands Ambulance Service at the scene before he was taken to hospital.
Fire Investigation Officer Station Manager Jon Temple: “The Investigation is currently on-going. Fire investigation is focusing in the first floor bedroom where it is believed the fire started. The fire spread rapidly throughout the property creating extensive fire and smoke damage. This incident highlights the need for working smoke detectors in your home. Thankfully the sleeping occupiers were alerted early enough for them to exit their home safely.”
Crews left the incident this evening after being in attendance for most of the day, they worked on damping down and cutting away as well as salvaging some of the occupier’s belongings.
They will return later to carry out a re-inspection.
