Shrewsbury taxi driver robbed at knifepoint
Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a Shrewsbury taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint during the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened after the man was picked up from the junction of St Michaels Street and Crewe Street next to the Maltings, shortly after 1am.
The taxi drover drove the man about a mile to near the former Dana prison in Castlefields. The passenger then threatened the driver with a knife forcing him to handover about £55.
Detective Constable Mat Crisp, the investigating officer, said: “I am appealing for witnesses or information about this robbery.
“In particular, I’m interested in any sightings of the suspect before the offence in the Ditherington/Maltings area or any sightings after the offence in the Castlefields area.”
“The circumstances are that at about 1.10am today, a taxi was ordered to collect from the junction of St Michaels Street and Crewe Street close to the Maltings.
“The lone male was collected and requested to be dropped off at the rear of the former Dana prison. He then produced what is believed to be a knife and threatened the driver before stealing cash from him and making off towards North Street.”
He urged anyone with information to contact CID at Shrewsbury police station on 101.
The robber is described as white, of stocky build, about six feet tall, with face stubble. He was wearing a blue tracksuit hoody and grey tracksuit bottoms.
Although the driver was unhurt he was badly shaken by the incident.
