Police are investigating an arson incident in Sutton Hill on Saturday which damaged the window of a house.

Police investigate Sutton Hill arson incident

A wheelie bin located against a bay window was deliberately set alight outside an address on Stebbings between 11.15pm and 11.30pm.

The fire not only destroyed the bin, but also caused parts of the window frame and window sill to melt.

A police spokesman said: “Although this fire had not taken hold prior to the arrival of the fire service, there is no doubt it could have been very dangerous.

“Fire officers believe the fire was started deliberately in the bin and therefore police are now investigating this incident.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Stebbings area late on Saturday night, or anyone who believes they may have any information that could aid the investigation into this fire.

“Anyone who believes they may have information about this incident is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 797S 290314.

“Alternatively, please remember that if you’d rather leave information without identifying yourself you can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
