Police are linking two arson attacks in Oswestry over the weekend in which thousands of pounds damage was caused to cars, a shed and fencing.

Police link two arson attacks in Oswestry

The two incidents occurred during the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings at locations off Upper Brook Street.

They are being investigated by police and fire officers and are believed to have been deliberately started.

Police have issued an appeal for information and also urged local residents to be on their guard and to report any suspicious activity.

Extra night-time patrols will be conducted in the area while investigations continue.

In the first incident, a garden shed was set alight at a home in Beresford Gardens at around 4.30am on Saturday. The shed and its contents were completely destroyed and nearby fencing was severely damaged.

A passing taxi driver raised the alarm at around 3.15am yesterday after spotting a car on fire in the parking area at the entrance to Lutton Close.

A VW Polo was destroyed and two other nearby cars were badly damaged.

Sergeant Scott Barnes said: “The two locations are little more than a street apart and both fires were deliberately started.

“We have launched an arson investigation and are appealing for witnesses and information which might help us identify those responsible.

“Any suspicious activity should be reported to Oswestry police station by calling 101. We would also welcome any information concerning the identity of the offenders.”

Sergeant Barnes added that officers would be carrying out extra patrols in the area in the foreseeable future.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
