Young woman sexually assaulted in Shrewsbury town centre
An investigation is underway after a young woman was sexually assaulted in Shrewsbury town centre during the early hours of yesterday.

Several passers-by found the 18-year-old woman in a distressed and dishevelled state on Rous Hill following the incident which occurred sometime between 3-4am.
They provided assistance and accompanied her to McDonald’s on Pride Hill at around 4am where a member of staff contacted police. The woman, who had been drinking at venues in the town centre prior to the assault and was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for checks but was not seriously hurt.
Detective Sergeant Robert Mountford, the investigating officer, said today: “I am appealing for a group of people – we think three young men and a woman - who found the victim on Rous Hill, to please make contact with Shrewsbury CID by calling 101.
“They provided assistance, helping her to McDonald’s and then went on their way. They may have been with other people in a larger group and it is really important anyone who was present gets in touch with us”.
He said police believed she was the victim of a serious sexual assault which occurred somewhere in the town centre. “We do not have an exact location but we believe she was assaulted by a man between about 3 and 4am.
“We want to hear from anyone who may have seen her, either alone or possibly with a man, at around this time. She may well have appeared upset and dishevelled. If anyone spotted something suspicious which might be related to this incident, they should contact the police”.
