Wrekin Housing Trust building new homes in Shrewsbury
The Wrekin Housing Trust is building new affordable homes in Shrewsbury as part of its ambitious development programme to deliver one new home every day.
The Trust has recently been granted planning permission for 33 new homes on land to the west of Mary Webb Road, Meole Brace. A mixture of two and three bedroom houses will be made available for local families who are currently waiting for homes in the Shrewsbury area.
Twenty three of the homes will be for affordable rent with the remainder being made available for shared ownership, giving local people the chance to get on the property ladder with the help of a trusted local landlord.
Speaking at the recent planning hearing for the site, Jean Teichmann, Head of Development at The Wrekin Housing Trust, told attendees of the Trust’s agreement to also pay for work to the footpath on the site, so that local improvements will be made as part of the development work. She said: “The site will incorporate an area for play as requested by local residents at the consultation meetings held in Bayston Hill and Meole Brace.”
Jean added: “It’s just what is needed in the area to address the growing demand for affordable housing and prevent young families moving away from the area and we’re looking forward to getting started on site.”
As well as this development, the Trust is also in the process of building four three-bedroom houses for affordable rent at Albert Road in Shrewsbury, which should be complete and available to local people by October.
