Police in Telford are investigating after the theft of a ring from a jewellery shop on New Street in Wellington yesterday.

Police investigate theft from Wellington jewellery shop

At around 3pm an unknown white man – described as being in his late 30s, around 5ft 9inches tall, with dark hair, a slim build and as wearing a white shirt with a dark blue tie and grey trousers – entered the shop and asked staff if he could look at some engagement rings.

He then pointed at one ring in particular and asked to look more closely at it.

As the female staff member serving the man showed him the ring, the man suddenly snatched it out of her hand and made off out of the shop with it.

Although a member of staff did initially give chase, the offender was last seen running towards Wellington Medical Practice before he disappeared out of sight.

Police are very keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have seen the man fleeing the scene on New Street, or who may know where the stolen ring can now be found.

The ring itself is thought to be worth several thousand pounds and clearly police would like to return it to the shop as soon as is possible.

Anyone who believes they may have information about this incident is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 343S 150414.

Alternatively, please remember that if you’d rather leave information without identifying yourself you can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
