Police investigating a serious sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl in Shrewsbury have arrested a teenager.

Teenager arrested over sexual assault on Shrewsbury girl

The assault took place at an isolated spot on disused land near the Arc car wash centre off St Michael’s Street, heading out of the town centre towards the fire station and Ditherington. It happened between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Friday 11 April.

Detectives have undertaken extensive inquiries, including making several appeals for the public’s help.

Yesterday evening, a 14-year-old boy was arrested in Shrewsbury and is currently in custody at Shrewsbury Police Station being questioned by specially trained detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is clearly a significant development in our inquiry, however investigations continue into the case.

“I have previously stressed how important it is for people to speak to us if they have any information about the offence and that appeal has not changed despite this development."

DCI Jamieson or Shrewsbury CID can be contacted via the non-emergency police number 101 or information can be passed on anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
