Concern grows for missing Wem man as police continue search
Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of a 71-year-old man missing from his home in Wem.

John Philip Rogers was reported missing on Wednesday morning after not being seen for several days. His disappearance is out of character and police are calling for public assistance as they step up the search.
Inspector Ed Hancox said this afternoon: “We are searching rural areas in and around Wem, using specialist search officers, dog handlers and air support. This will continue over the weekend”.
Volunteers from West Mercia Search & Rescue will be joining the search tomorrow, concentrating on the Wem and Grinshill areas.
Inspector Hancox said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for Mr Rogers and urge residents in the area to search their gardens and outbuildings. He is known to be a walker and may have left Wem on foot. Farmers and walkers should keep him in mind when out and about.
“We urge him to contact the police immediately if aware of the search and are also appealing to anyone who may have seen him recently to contact Shrewsbury police station by calling 101”.
Mr Rogers is known by his middle name as Phil. Concerned neighbours raised the alarm after not seeing him for a few days with curtains at his home remaining closed.
He does not appear to have prepared for leaving home as his wallet and mobile phone were left behind.
Mr Rogers is described as white, about 5ft 6ins tall of thin build with grey hair to the sides and balding on top. He was wearing blue jeans and a blue waterproof jacket when last seen.
