£75,000 has been raised for Teenage Cancer Trust in just three days thanks to generous donations at events held by The Midcounties Co-operative in Shropshire.

Events raise £75,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust in one weekend

The ‘Get Wiggy’ events were hosted last weekend across the Society’s trading groups and saw colleagues don wigs and fancy dress to encourage customers to get involved with in-store fundraising. Activities such as tombolas, cake sales, bag packing and till donations all took place to raise funds for The Midcounties Co-operative’s charity partner.

People in Shropshire inspired by the fundraising mission of the charity’s ambassador Stephen Sutton were also able to make their donations directly to Teenage Cancer Trust through the events at the stores.

The funds raised from the events sees a total of £375,000 raised so far for by The Midcounties Co-operative for the charity, just 25% away from its £500,000 target. The donation forms part of the Society’s social responsibility commitment to give back to the local community and support young people living with cancer.

Maxine Sharman, Head of Community Engagement at The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “Teenage Cancer Trust helps to support young people with cancer and we continue to support the inspirational work they do with a number of fundraising initiatives.

“These events were a great opportunity to give our colleagues, members and customers the opportunity to generate much needed funds for such a worthy cause, and followed a record breaking week of fundraising for the charity with ‘Stephen’s Thumbs Up’ campaign. To have raised this amount in such a short time is a fantastic achievement and we want to thank all of those who are helping us to get closer to our target.”
