£18m Severn Trent project will improve water supplies
An £18 million pound project by Severn Trent to increase the reliability of water supplies across Shropshire has reached its halfway point the company has revealed.

The work started in the summer of 2013 as contractors began burying a new 8 kilometre pipeline in the ground.
Severn Trent Water programme manger Ruth Farrell said: “We’re always thinking ahead and we want to secure water supplies for our customers way into the future. With this investment, we’ll increase the reliability of drinking water supplies in the long term by linking together our network of water pipes in the Telford and Shrewsbury area.
“We’re about half way through the work to connect the new pipe from the West of Shrewsbury to our pumping station in the village of Uckington.
"To do this, we‘ve already tunnelled under the River Tern, and later in July we’ll be tunnelling under the River Severn. We’re also going to tunnel under the A5 in June, rather than digging it up, so we’ll keep disruption to a minimum for road users.”
Work on the pipeline is due to finish in spring 2015.
