Man arrested following death of woman in Market Drayton

A 74-year-old man was today arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found at a house in Market Drayton.

The body has yet to be formally identified but it’s believed to be that of 75-year-old Beatrice Margaret Bennett.

Her body was found at her home in Millfield Drive at around 8.20am this morning, officers went to the address following a call.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “A 74-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a woman’s body at a house in Market Drayton.

“He has been taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station. No-one else is believed to be involved.”

The man was arrested at the house, which remains cordoned off for forensic examination as police inquiries continue.

A post mortem is due to be carried out by a Home Office pathologist tonight.

The Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery, has been informed and an inquest will be opened in due course.
