Police investigate sexual assault on teenage girl near Oswestry

Police investigating the incident, which is believed to have taken place in a field near the Orthopaedic Hospital at around 9pm, believe the victim and the suspect may have been spotted at two locations between 8pm and 10pm on Saturday night.

Detective Sergeant John Weaver said today: “The 17-year-old victim was at The Venue car park in a white van with another female and a youth of similar age. There was also a young child present. Another white van was also there with the suspect who engaged in conversation with the occupants of the other vehicle.

“The suspect drove off with the victim at speed from the car park. I am appealing to anyone who saw these people with the two vans in the car park, or the one vehicle leaving at speed, to contact Shrewsbury CID on 101. The reference number is 0862-s-010614.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who saw a white van in a field near the Orthopaedic Hospital on Saturday night.”

The 16-year-old youth arrested has been given police bail, with conditions, while the investigation continues.
