Fourteen parcels of North Shropshire land eclipsed their pre-sale guide prices as they sold for an astounding £864,000 in just 70 minutes at a packed auction in Shrewsbury yesterday.

Parcels of North Shropshire land sell for £864,000 at auction

The land at Whitchurch, Whixall, Prees and Wem, which was all owned by the same man, attracted a crowd of around 250 people to auctioneers Halls’ Battlefield salerooms.

Halls’ director David Giles said the result and huge interest generated by the auction underlined the huge demand for land.

“Every lot sold way in excess of expectations and the majority went to local people, although one or two bidders were from outside the area,” he added. “It appears that everybody wants to own their own little piece of England and once again the auction has proved to be the best mode of sale.

“The land was owned by a local man who is very well respected. There is great confidence in land as an asset and there is a big queue of people waiting to invest their money, so now is the time to sell.”

Top price, at £170,000, went to 16.90 acres of pastureland at Platt Lane, Whixall, while a building plot and parcel of sloping pastureland extending to 7.28 acres at Shrewsbury Street, Prees sold for £150,000 and 8.07 acres of pastureland at Shawbury Road, Tilley, Wem made £90,000.

A corrugated iron and timber garage and 2.39 acres of land at Rack Lane Garage, Whixhall made £81,000 against a guide price of £15,000 to £18,000 while 5.60 acres of land accessed from the road leading to Hawkstone Hotel and Golf Course, Weston-under-Redcastle doubled its estimate at £84,000.

Two parcels of land on the edge of Fenns Moss National Nature Reserve, Fenns Wood Farm, Whitchurch sold for £20,000 and £6,000 for 4.98 acres and 0.82 acres respectively.

The other results were: £58,000 for 8.70 acres at Dobsons Bridge, Whixall, £58,000 for two acres north of Holly House, Whixall, 50,000 for 4.36 acres at Maltkiln Lane, Whixall, £40,000 for 4.62 acres at Platt Lane, Whixall, £23,000 for 0.54 acres north of Whixall Social Centre, Whixall, £20,000 for 2.03 acres at The Elms, Weston Under Redcastle and £14,000 for 0.59 acres at Whitchurch Road, Prees.
