Shrewsbury man jailed for drugs offences
A 48-year-old man from Shrewsbury was sentenced to 20 months in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.
Appearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Andrew Hardy, of Castle Foregate, was also served with a Confiscation Order to pay £9146.29, a sum that included money seized when two warrants were executed at his home address.
The first warrant was executed 31 October 2013 – when Hardy was initially arrested – and then a second warrant was executed on 11 March 2014.
In addition to the money that was seized by officers from the town centre Safer Neighbourhood Team, more than 2kg of cannabis was also seized and this was thought to have an estimated street value of more than £30,000.
Speaking about this satisfying result, Temporary Sergeant Ed Bates said:
“This was a pleasing result and I hope it sends out a strong message that tackling drugs offences remains a priority for West Mercia Police.
“Not only that, I also hope it shows that we will endeavour to take back any income generated from crime to ensure that we continue to do all we can to protect our local communities from harm.
“Finally, with that in mind, can I just take this opportunity to remind people that if they have any concerns about criminality in the area they live in, then they should call West Mercia Police as soon as possible on 101.”
