Emergency services in Shropshire this afternoon dealt with two separate collisions involving motorcycles.

Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital following collision

A 19-year-old male motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A495 at Newton Bank, Newton, near Ellesmere. The teenager was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

His black Yamaha motorcycle, was being ridden from the Ellesmere direction towards Whitchurch, when the collision occured with a red and green Scania artic travelling in the opposite direction.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews were called to reports of a lorry and a motorbike that had been in collision. On arrival at the scene ambulance crew’s found the motorcyclist trapped underneath his bike.

“The man was freed and treated for severe leg injuries. The motorcyclist, who was also suspected to have sustained internal injuries, was fully immobilised at the scene.

“Due to the serious nature of his injuries, the man was given advanced pain relief before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire for further assessment and specialist treatment.”

PC Lee Barton of West Mercia Police said: “We would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision itself or saw either the motorcycle or the lorry in the moments before it happened.”

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact PC Barton on the non emergency number 101 quoting incident number 364s 120614.
