Police today renewed their appeal for witnesses to collision between Shrewsbury and Wellington in which a 61-year-old woman was killed and a 10-year-old boy seriously injured.

Renewed witness appeal following fatal collision at Uckington

It happened on the B5061 at Uckington shortly after 11.30am on Saturday when a silver Citroen C3 Picasso left the road and struck a tree.

The woman driver, thought to be from the Shrewsbury area, was pronounced dead at the scene and the front seat passenger was airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

A police investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the collision and a fresh appeal made for witnesses.

One of the investigating officers, Police Constable Dan Yates urged anyone who saw the collision or the circumstances leading up to it, to contact Shrewsbury police station on 101, quoting the reference number 317-s-210614.

“We are particularly interested in hearing from the occupants of a small car, electric blue in colour, possibly a Peugeot 206. We are also trying to locate the driver of a green three-door Suzuki Swift with either NAW or NAM in the registration.”

The woman who died was travelling from the direction of Atcham towards Telford. It crashed off the road on a bend and both occupants had to be released from the wreckage.

PC Yates said it’s thought that both the Peugeot and Suzuki Swift were travelling in the same direction and their drivers could have information to assist the investigation.

“I am appealing to them to get in touch with the police as a matter of urgency.”

He added: “This is a distressing time and our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved.”

The Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery has been informed and an inquest will be opened in due course.
