Appeal after two bearded dragons are left for dead in Telford
The RSPCA is appealing for information after two bearded dragons were found dumped in Telford.
The reptiles were discovered by a concerned member of the public in woodland in Admaston, Telford on Thursday 12 June.
The RSPCA was contacted and an officer sent to collect them. The reptiles were very lethargic, dehydrated and very skinny when found.
RSPCA animal welfare officer (AWO) Elaine Williams took them straight to a vet for treatment.
She said: “These animals had obviously been suffering for some time and were just left for dead by whoever dumped them. It is so sad to see them dumped like this. Whoever dumped them gave no thought to their well being and should have known that they stood no chance of survival. They were just left to suffer.
“I had taken both of them home and provided them with a suitable environment for their specific needs, as bearded dragons originate from Australia.
“I named them Madge and Harold and we believe that they were male and female and around seven to nine months old. During their care I gave them daily baths to help rehydrate them, along with an appropriate diet. Harold managed to perk up and and was able to feed himself, but sadly despite our best efforts, Madge sadly died.
“Somebody must know something about these animals and who abandoned them. And I would urge anyone with information to contact the RSPCA appeal line in confidence on 0300 123 8018.”
Those found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal can face a maximum six month prison sentence and/or a £20,000 fine.
