Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was robbed whilst walking through a graveyard in Shrewsbury on Thursday 3 July.

Woman robbed whilst walking through Shrewsbury graveyard

The 33-year-old woman was walking through Old St Chad’s Church graveyard between 11pm and 11.30pm when the robbery took place.

Three men approached her from behind and pushed her over. They then emptied her handbag and stole money and a pair of gold earrings. The offenders ran off towards the town centre.

All of the men are described as white and aged between 20 and 25. The first man is thought to be of a skinny build with dark shaved hair and wearing a yellow waist length jacket and dark jeans. He has a distinctive scar on the side of his face, from his temple to his cheek bone.

The second man is described as having a “chubby build” and wearing dark clothing with a red baseball cap. The third man was of a medium build.

Police urge the public to keep to busy well-lit roads and to avoid taking shortcuts through parks and dark alleyways. It is also advised to walk home in a group if possible, as robbers are less likely to strike if you stick together.

DC Samantha Salt said: “It is believed there will have been plenty of people in the town centre at the time who may have witnessed something. I’m asking for anyone who saw men of these descriptions to please come forward.”

To share information on this crime, call police on 101 quoting incident number 50S of Friday 4 July. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or by visiting their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
