Planning has been granted for a new development of 38 new homes in Oakengates adjacent to a popular bowling green and clubhouse.

The Wrekin Housing Trust will be providing the new homes for rent at Church Street in Oakengates as part of its development programme providing affordable homes for people in Telford.

The new development will include 19 two bedroom and 19 three bedroom houses, and will provide over £12 million worth of value to the local economy as well as generating 87 jobs. Four or more apprenticeship opportunities will also be made available on the site once work begins with Central & County Developments Ltd.

The purchase of the land by the Trust will also enable the adjacent sellers Maddocks Sports and Social Club to refurbish their clubhouse and bowling green, a valuable community asset which old and new residents alike will be able to use.

The new homes are being funded by the Trust along with the Homes & Communities Agency and work will start on site shortly.

Steve Swann, Development Manager at the Trust, said: “This is a large development and will provide great quality new homes for the area. We’ve worked closely with the Sports and Social Club to come up with a plan that helps both them and the many people looking for an affordable home in the area, so we’re looking forward to getting started.”
