Shrewsbury police control room to remain open until 2017
A police control room that had been earmarked for closure under cost cutting proposals will now remain open for another three years.

West Mercia Police have today announced that the control room at Battlefield in Shrewsbury scheduled to close in March 2015 as part of cost saving plans will now remain open until 2017.
ACC Gareth Morgan said:
"The decision to keep Shrewsbury OCC open until 2017 will ensure the force continues to deliver a resilient and reliable service to protect people from harm whilst the new two site OCC is put in place at Hindlip and Leek Wootton.
"This is good news for the 75 staff who are employed at Shrewsbury as supervisors, call handlers and communications operators. These staff have all been updated."
The decision to close Shrewsbury followed a thorough review of all the buildings and operational sites currently used by the force.
One of the prime catalysts for the review was the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review that requires Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police to identify and realise £30.3 million in savings by 2015.
Work will now start on delivering one two-site OCC at Hindlip and Leek Wootton.
