Keith Barrow, Leader of Shropshire Council, has accepted a nomination for the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for charity.

Shropshire Council leader takes up ice bucket challenge

Mr Barrow is hoping to raise as much money as he can from his sharp introduction to icy water at The New Saints game this Friday evening at Park Hall Stadium, Oswestry and all proceeds will go directly to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Keith said:

“I want to raise as much as I can and it was actually my wife who said the fans at the game might enjoy seeing me as the Council Leader get publicly frozen so I thought why not! It’s all for a good cause and hopefully we can raise a good amount of money – and hopefully it’s not too cold on Friday evening!”

Motor Neurone Disease Association explain Motor Neurone Disease as being a “progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.”

The Ice Bucket Challenge has taken off worldwide raising money and awareness to help those suffering from the affliction. Variations on the challenge have emerged to raise money for other charities, most notably with Matt Damon opting to raise money for clean drinking water projects by dousing himself in a bucket of toilet water instead.

The money raised by Cllr Barrow’s dunking will be going directly to the charity and you can donate through the Just Giving page and a video will be tweeted via the Shropshire Council account.
