A busy section of a Shrewsbury road is closed this afternoon after a lorry shed its load.

The A49 is closed southbound between the Preston Island and Sundorne Island following the incident earlier this afternoon.

Recovery is set to shortly take place, traffic in the area is reported to be very heavily congested.

Motorists using a diversion route through Uffington onto the old A5 are also facing long delays.

Please avoid A5 Preston Boats Island from Sundorne onto A5 Wellington/Telford bound. Lorry blocking the road awaiting recovery https://twitter.com/ShrewsburyCops/statuses/505358281817477122
