Night closures for Coach Central in Telford this week

Ongoing work to change the traffic flow on the “box road” in Telford town centre will this week see night closures from the multi-storey car park up to Malinsgate police station.

Night closures for Coach Central in Telford this week

Coach Central will close from 8pm until 6am for five nights from this evening until Friday 5 September as a result of the work to make the box road two way.

People wanting to attend films at Cineworld and visit the Southwater development will still be able to as they will still be able to access the new multi storey car park.

However when people are leaving the car park, the works will mean they have to turn right.

The resurfacing works will be carried out overnight to keep disruption to a minimum and fully signs diversions will be maintained.

Councillor Hilda Rhodes, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Transport, said: “We are busy changing the entire look and feel of Telford town centre and making the box road two way is a key part of that.

“The new layout will help create a more traditional town centre feel with a greater choice of routes to all parts of the town centre. It will also slow traffic down making it safer for all road users.”

The £11.8m phased improvements are required to allow the expansion of Telford town centre, meaning better access to both the £250m Southwater development and Telford Shopping Centre.

It will also result in the town centre becoming a safer place for pedestrians and cyclists.

Work to make the Box Road two way will be completed by March 2015. Each section of the Box Road will be opened to two way traffic when completed.

Central barriers will be kept in place on completion of each phase to help avoid any confusion.
