West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses following a spate of vehicle fires in Pontesbury.

Police investigate Pontesbury vehicle fires

The latest incident occurred at around 9.15pm last night, when a white BMW was set alight on Station Road.

There have been a series of suspicious fires in recent weeks, although it is not known whether the incidents are linked.

On Tuesday 21 August at approximately 10.20am a black Peugeot was set alight at Callow Cars in Main Road, Pontesbury. A man was seen leaving the scene wearing a baseball cap and a black coat.

On Sunday 31 August at 1.40am two tractors and a BMW car were set alight at Severn Farm Machinery, Pontesbury. A fire was also started in the shed at the same address but didn’t spread as the flames reached a water pipe.

On Tuesday 2 September between 0.50am and 1.15am an Audi was set on fire at Red House Barns in Plealey.

Chief Inspector Andrew Milne from West Mercia Police said “We are keeping an open mind in relation to these incidents.

“We are investigating closely with the fire service and exploring all possible options. A criminal investigation has been commenced and additional patrols will be deployed to the area.

“We would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or has any information which could help with our enquiries to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 709 of 2nd September.”
