Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre set for open weekend
Around 200 people have signed up to attend an open weekend which will showcase the new £28million Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre in Telford.

Patients, members of the public and staff are invited to attend the open weekend at the new centre at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford with the event due to run from 10am until 4pm this Saturday and Sunday 6 and 7 September 2014.
Around 200 people have already contacted The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to say they plan to attend the event which will include tours of the new centre and a chance to find out more about women and children’s services.
The open weekend will provide a sneak peak into the Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre ahead of its opening on 29 and 30 September when it will become the main facility providing care for women and children for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.
Part of the building is already being used, as the Children’s Ward at the Princess Royal Hospital moved from the first floor of the hospital down into its former location on the ground floor, which has been refurbished and is now part of the new centre, in May. It is the only part of the centre which is open, with the rest due to open at the end of September.
Kate Shaw, Programme Manager for the Future Configuration of Hospital Services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “Our open weekend will give people a chance to see inside our new Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre, have tours and meet staff ahead of its opening at the end of this month.
“Nurses, Midwives, Doctors and members of the Project Team will be on hand to answer questions and tours will take place throughout both days. Light refreshments will be available.
“We’re delighted with the interest in the event so far, but there’s still time to register your interest in attending to see inside what will be an excellent facility for the people of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.”
The centre will be for women who need a consultant-led birth, gynaecology services where you have to stay overnight, children who need to stay overnight, children’s Oncology and Haematology care and babies who need intensive and special care.
Anybody interested in attending is asked to register their interest by emailing future@sath.nhs.uk
