Champion racing driver to open new £3.5m auto academy
Three-time British touring car champion Matt Neal will be at Telford College of Arts and Technology next month to officially open its new £3.5 million automotive engineering centre.

The centre, which has begun training the next generation of motor mechanics and can cater for up to 100 students at any one time, is the latest in a long line of investments at the fast-growing Wellington campus.
Matt Neal, the 6ft 6ins driver who won the British touring car title in 2005, 2006 and 2011 and is marketing director at alloy wheel maker Rimstock plc, perform the official opening on November 6.
A series of demonstrations and activities are planned for the day, including an engine strip-down masterclass, plus showcases of petrol and diesel fuel injection, air conditioning, and Snap-On diagnostics.
Jim Hillman, head of school with responsibility for the centre, said: “The facility is keeping students and trainees fully up to date with developments in the industry by learning on state of the art equipment.
“The equipment is housed within three brand new specialist workshops, one of which is sound proofed for engine and chassis dynamometer testing.
“Facilities include general training provisions together with the latest automated test lane for MOTs, a chassis dynamometer, engine testing and fault diagnostics, computerised four-wheel alignment and Snap-On tools and equipment.”
Mr Hillman said students were benefiting from working in real life workshop conditions, and would be taught by a team of industry-trained professionals with a wide breadth of specialisms.
The centre also has strong links with major motor dealerships, and independent garages to supplement its on-site teaching facilities and classrooms.
Telford College principal, Chris Scott, said: “This centre cements our reputation as one of the largest providers of automotive engineering training in the region.
“We are working closely with local, regional and national partners to ensure that this facility delivers the skills industry wants and needs for the challenges that lay ahead.”
