Police are appealing for witnesses after a bus driver was assaulted in Oswestry.

Cyclist assaults bus driver in Oswestry

The incident happened at around 9.15am on Thursday 18 September, when the number 53 Arriva bus stopped on Old Whittington Road to pick up passengers at the stop opposite Gobowen Working Men’s Club.

The driver prepared to move away. When looking in his mirror, he saw a cyclist riding past who then thumped the bus with his hand. The cyclist then put his bike down in front of the bus and walked up to the driver’s open window.

He then physically assaulted the driver, leaving him with minor injuries to his wrist.

The cyclist is described as a white man, late 40s, approximately five foot six tall, stocky build, receding hairline, possibly grey hair, dark jacket, dark jeans, a red and black rucksack and trainers.

Police are appealing for the cyclist to come forward along with any witnesses and passengers on the bus at the time.

To give information, contact PC Scott Harrower through 101 quoting incident 277 of Thursday 18 September. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
