Firefighters tackle fire in Shrewsbury Market Hall store room
Firefighters were this afternoon called to a fire in a store room at Shrewsbury Market Hall.
Crews were called following the discovery of the fire in the basement room just before 2.15pm.
Customers and traders were asked to leave the premises whilst the fire which involved cardboard and stationary was tackled by two crews from Shrewsbury.
Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one main jet, a positive pressure ventilation fan and a thermal image camera to put out the fire.
Shrewsbury Market Hall remained closed for the rest of the afternoon following the loss of electricity.
A market spokesperson said: "Thanks so much to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for a speedy response. We suffered only minor damage and the electricity should be back up-and-running tonight."
The market is expected to re-open to shoppers as normal on Tuesday morning.
