Partnership sees new homes completed for Oswestry residents
A new Oswestry housing scheme has been officially opened at an event bringing together the new residents and those involved in building the homes.

The new development, at Biffen Road in Oswestry, was opened by Councillor Malcolm Price, Shropshire Council Portfolio Holder for Planning, Housing and Commissioning, at a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the scheme.
The homes, situated on the former tax office site and consisting of 14 houses and bungalows, were constructed for The Wrekin Housing Trust by local developer Jessup. They have not only provided much needed affordable homes, but made a huge contribution to the town, with money spent in the area with local suppliers and jobs and apprenticeships created on site.
The two organisations came together to host the event, which all residents were invited to, and which included refreshments at a local church hall, contributing further to the local community.
Cllr Price officially opened the scheme and said: “This development is a fantastic example of partnership work between Shropshire Council, The Wrekin Housing Trust, Jessup, Shropshire Housing Alliance who will manage flats on the same development and the landowner. It’s great to see all the hard work come to fruition and to see first-hand how happy these tenants are with their new homes.”
Two of the Biffen Road residents who attended the celebration were Irene Johnson and her sister Julie Davis who have both moved to new homes on the development with their husbands.
Irene said: “It was lovely to meet everyone and have the opening event. We’re very, very happy with our bungalow and have made the right move for our future, as well as freeing up another home for a family in the area.”
The development is part of The Trust’s programme to build 2000 homes, more than one new home per day, across Shropshire, Staffordshire and Herefordshire.
