Oswestry man arrested following death at Rednal skate park

The arrest follows the death of 20-year-old Matthew Jones who was attending a Halloween event taking place at the Academy Skatepark on Rednal Industrial Estate.

Matthew, of Johnstown, Wrexham, died on his 20th Birthday during the early hours of Saturday.

He was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His family are being supported by officers from West Mercia Police.

A postmortem is due to be carried out in the next few days and the death is currently being treated as suspicious.

His death is being investigated and officers are continuing to piece together what happened in the hours leading up to Matthew's death.

Chief Inspector Tom Harding of Shropshire Police said: "This is a tragic incident and as part of our ongoing investigation we remain eager to hear from anyone that was at the event at the skate park on Rednal Industrial Estate on Friday night, into the early hours of Saturday morning. We believe people who attended this event could have vital information that will help us with our enquiries."

Information can be given to West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident number 219 of the 1st November. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers via their website www.crimestoppers-uk.org at or by phoning 0800 555 111.
