Heavy rain overnight has caused problems for motorists and train passengers in Shropshire this morning.

A series of flood alerts and warnings were triggered overnight as rain fell leaving standing water on roads and rails.

Flooding between Machynlleth and Caersws is causing disruption to train journeys between Shrewsbury, Aberystwyth and Pwllheli.

Trains are unable to run between Machynlleth and Newtown and are being replaced by buses between the stations. Services from Aberystwyth are being replaced by a bus from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury.

Journey times may be extended by up to 80 minutes.

The B4386 is just passable in Westbury near the junction of the B4387 junction due to flooding.

On the Shropshire border the A490 is closed both ways in Church Stoke between the A489 junction and the B4386 because of flooding.

The A49 at Onibury is partially blocked due to a hoel opening up in the road near the level crossing. Engineers are at the scene to carry out repairs.
