Initiative reduces Shrewsbury Sunday parking charges

Shrewsbury BID has announced a series of car parking offers for 2015 to encourage visitors to ‘See Shrewsbury on Sundays’.

Initiative reduces Shrewsbury Sunday parking charges

The three month initiative will help back businesses operating in Shrewsbury town centre.

In the Shropshire Council town centre short stay car parks, visitors will be able to park for two hours for the price of one at the Tannery, St Austin’s Street and Bridge Street car parks and three hours for the price of one at Frankwell Riverside and Quay Short Stay car parks.

The incentive will run from the 18 January through to the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and has been introduced to attract more shoppers, diners and visitors into the town centre during the post Christmas sales period. It sits alongside NCP’s existing Sunday car parking tariff in Wyle Cop, which is just £1.

Des Walker, Owner of Pomona Grocery on Castle Street said: “The cost of parking is important to people deciding to visit the town centre so we are delighted that people will be able to park for so little on a Sunday in the new year, a time which can be quieter for shops, eateries and attractions. The incentives make Shrewsbury cheaper to visit than Telford town centre and other nearby shopping destinations, which is great news.”

Councillor Claire Wild, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Shropshire Council added: “By working in partnership with Shrewsbury BID on car parking initiatives we are able to make Shrewsbury town centre an even more attractive place for people to visit and stay for the day. This is part of a wider plan for car parking and transport infrastructure projects which we are working to deliver with Shrewsbury BID in 2015. We would encourage visitors to come and enjoy a long and relaxed day and utilise the long stay car parks.”

Discounted all day car parking will be available at Abbey Foregate, Raven Meadows Multi Storey, St Julian’s Friars and Frankwell Main.
