British Transport Police has released CCTV images of a man they want trace after a suitcase was stolen from a Shrewsbury-bound train while it was at Telford Central station.

Police seek man after suitcase is stolen from train in Telford

The incident occurred at approximately 11pm on Wednesday, 10 December, on the 10.12pm Birmingham New Street to Shrewsbury service.

PC Jamie Taylor, investigating, said: “A 32-year-old woman from Shrewsbury boarded the train at Birmingham and put her suitcase and carrier bag in the luggage racks by the doors.

“When the train arrived at Telford, the woman saw a man walking down the platform carrying the case and carrier bag. The train doors closed before she could act, but she did report the matter to British Transport Police.

“The case contained personal belongings – including jewellery and clothes – valued at more than £700. Also taken were irreplaceable architectural drawings.”

Officers have been pursuing several lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV from the train and station, leading to today’s release of two images.

PC Taylor said: “Who is the man in the suit? I need to speak to him, as I believe he has important information about what happened that night. I believe he also started his journey in Birmingham. If you recognise him, or have any other information about what happened, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference B3/MSUB of 08/01/2015. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
