Contracts have been signed for a new primary academy that will be built in the heart of the newly developed Lawley Village.

Lawley Village Primary Academy is the last in the series 13 of schools procured through the Building Schools for the Future legacy Programme.

Telford & Wrekin Council and Shepherd Construction have engaged over the last few months to design the new school.

The site in Lawley is now being prepared and a work has started to form the site compound. Building works are due to begin at the end of January 2015 and the new academy is due to open to pupils in January 2016.

Shepherd Construction are currently underway with work rebuilding and remodelling the remaining five secondary schools in the Council’s Building Schools for the future programme.

REAch2 WM Academy Trust has recently been appointed as the new Sponsors of the Academy and will start to work with Telford & Wrekin Council early in the new year.

REAch2 is the largest primary-only academy trust in the country and is a growing charitable organisation currently supporting some 35 primary academies across England.

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “The signing of the contract for the new primary academy in Lawley is welcome news.

“The new academy will provide much needed places for local children in a growing community.

“We welcome REAch2 WM to Telford as the sponsors of the academy.

“REAch2 WM told us that they are keen to establish a base in Telford and look forward to working closely with the Council and the local community on the remainder of the scheme.”
