Shrewsbury’s Sunday car parking offer starts this weekend

Shoppers, visitors and traders in Shrewsbury are set to benefit from a new car parking offer from this weekend.

Shrewsbury’s Sunday car parking offer starts this weekend

The ‘See Shrewsbury on Sundays’ initiative means those arriving by car will be able to park all day and pay for just the first hour in any of the Council’s long stay town centre car parks, which can be as little as 60p per hour.

Visitors will also be able to park for two hours for the price of one at the Tannery, St Austin’s Street and Bridge Street car parks and three hours for the price of one at Frankwell Riverside and Quay short stay car parks.

The deal will run from the 18th January through to the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and has been introduced to attract more shoppers, diners and visitors into the town centre during the winter months. It sits alongside NCP’s existing Sunday car parking tariff in Wyle Cop, which is just £1.

“This is a major change for those visiting the town centre at weekends and a much needed January saving for shoppers. There are many options for Shropshire Council car parking spaces in the town centre and plenty to do on Sundays, from shopping and Sunday lunch to riverside walks and museum tours,” said Kirsten Henly, Shrewsbury BID Manager.

“This offer builds on the success of our free-parking pilot on bank holiday weekends in 2014 and further parking and infrastructure projects are being developed with Shropshire Council,” she added.

Councillor Claire Wild, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Shropshire Council said: “By working in partnership with Shrewsbury BID on car parking initiatives we are able to make Shrewsbury town centre an even more attractive place for people to visit and stay for the day. This is part of a wider plan for car parking and transport infrastructure projects which we are working to deliver with Shrewsbury BID in 2015. We would encourage visitors to come and enjoy a long and relaxed day and utilise the long stay car parks.”

Discounted all day car parking will be available at the following car parks: Abbey Foregate, Raven Meadows Multi Storey, St Julian’s Friars and Frankwell Main.
