Police warn over increase in telephone scam calls
West Mercia Police have issued another urgent appeal to beware of fraud involving bogus callers after an increase of incidents reported in the Albrighton area.

Officers are now linking five cases, the first which was reported on 19 December 2014 followed by four more incidents in which telephone callers have posed as bank employees or police officers to trick, or attempt to trick, elderly or vulnerable victims into revealing their bank details.
All of the people targeted by this have been elderly and sadly some money has been taken from one of the victim's account. Luckily, some of the victims have been aware that is a scam and not given their details.
In all the incidents victims are contacted by telephone by fraudsters posing as bank employees or officers from the police. Various stories are used to trick people into thinking they are victims of bank account fraud and in some cases a courier is sent to collect the cards.
Anyone with information about suspicious callers claiming to be police should call the non emergency number 101.
