Police are appealing for witnesses following a racially aggravated common assault that happened in Wellington yesterday afternoon.

Teenager attacked in Wellington during racially aggravated assault

The assault occurred between 3pm and 3:30pm when a 17-year-old boy was walking into Wellington town centre with a friend, along Apley Avenue.

They were followed by approximately five boys who became verbally aggressive with them. They then followed the victim and his friend onto Whitchurch Drive and Crescent Road. Once on Victoria Road, one of the suspects physically assaulted the 17-year-old who then ran away whilst being chased by the boys, who eventually lost the victim.

The suspects are described as black and all aged between 13 and 16 years old. At the time of the incident they were all wearing school uniform and one of them had a green bike. The suspect that assaulted the 17-year-old is described as around 5’9’’ in height with black hair and wearing a green coat with a fur hood.

Though no injuries were caused this is a seemingly unprovoked attack and police are keen identify the people involved. If anyone witnessed the assault or saw the circumstances leading up to it they are urged to call 101, quoting incident 429 of the 26th January.
