Proceeds of jewellery collection auction will go to historic church
A collection of jewellery consigned to an auction in Shrewsbury next month will raise money for the Church of St Bartholomew at Moreton Corbet, near Shawbury.

Proceeds of the jewellery, which is expected to realise around £4,000 at Halls’ fine pictures, silver and jewellery auction on March 18, have been anonymously donated towards the maintenance and repair of the church.
Standing alongside Moreton Corbet Castle, the Church of St Bartholomew has historical connections to the Corbet family from 1254 and the chancel, decorated by Ninian Cooper, is said to be unique. There church has stained glass windows, stone memorials with Corbet heraldry and chest tombs from the 16th century.
Included in the jewellery collection are a butterfly stone set brooch at around £600, a heart shaped enamel, diamond and pearl brooch at up to £500 and an untested pearl necklace at up to £700.
“There are some lovely pieces in the collection which is being sold on behalf of the Parochial Church Council, so we hope they do well at auction,” said Maryanne Lineker-Mobberley, head of Halls’ silver and jewellery department.
