Housing trust tenants get behind Homes for Britain campaign
Tenants of The Wrekin Housing Trust have taken to the streets in support of Homes for Britain, a national campaign which is calling on all political parties to commit to ending the housing crisis within a generation.

The event, led by members of the Trust’s Tenants’ Panel, a group of involved residents who work with the Trust to improve and maintain services, was held on Friday to highlight the problem of the shortage of affordable homes.
As a Trust tenant, Sue Lane, Chair of the Tenants’ Panel, felt this was a cause worth backing. “We decided to host this event for residents to show how passionate we are about everyone having a place to call home. And just as importantly, a quality home that is affordable and a safe, secure place to raise a family or enjoy life to the full.”
The rally in support of Homes for Britain started at the Trust’s popular eco-development, Windsor Court in Wellington, and finished at the Trust’s Wrekin Retirement Living scheme, Hornbeam Close, with residents of the homes coming out to show their support. These locations were chosen as they show the breadth of homes that are required, and that are provided by the Trust, but of which many more are needed.
The event ties in with the Trust’s More than a home campaign, launched last year, which aims to increase support from local people, including councillors and MPs, for more new homes. The campaign uses stories to show the additional benefits to communities of homes being constructed such as jobs, apprenticeships, money ploughed into the economy and a boost to local businesses and suppliers.
The Homes for Britain campaign, which is run by a collaboration of housing organisations, is hosting its own rally, with supporters all over the country making their way by various means to an event being held for over 5000 supporters on 17th March in Westminster.
