Shrewsbury visit strengthens international links
A team from University Centre Shrewsbury and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College welcomed visitors from China to discuss the opportunities the town offers for international students.

Jin Xu, the University of Chester’s representative in China, and Chinese entrepreneur and doctoral researcher Sen Yang, visited Shrewsbury at the end of February.
They were given a tour of the town, and spent time with University Centre staff, including Deputy Provost Paul Kirkbright and Curriculum Development Lead, Jon Britten; the Principal of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, Martin Ward, and its Director of International Recruitment, Claire Reid-Warrilow.
University Centre Shrewsbury invites applications from across the world, and is working closely with Shrewsbury Sixth Form College. The College offers a foundation programme providing access to Higher Education, which enables students from China to prepare for study at University Centre Shrewsbury.
Jin Xu is based in Beijing where the University of Chester has an office. He works throughout China with a particular focus on building links with major universities, colleges and schools in Shanghai, Xiamen, Xian, Dalian, Beijing and Wuhan.
Paul Kirkbright said: “Shrewsbury offers a great choice for international students to study high quality courses in a beautiful location.
“We have already received applications from a range of countries and are further building our international standing.
“We are working with Shrewsbury Sixth Form College to support international students who need to undertake a foundation programme before joining us. The College’s foundation course gives students the chance to study in the same town, at one of the top sixth form institutions in the country.
“It was an honour to welcome Jin Xu and Sen Yang to Shrewsbury, alongside colleagues from the University Centre and Sixth Form College. I look forward to continuing to work together to strengthen links between the University Centre and China.”
Jin Xu said: "Shrewsbury is a well-known historic town with great culture, a unique heritage, good location and pleasant environment for living and study.
“With a variety of undergraduate courses being offered and new courses being developed, Shrewsbury provides the ideal setting to study a high-quality and innovative degree course accredited by the University of Chester.
“I believe that more and more Chinese and other international students will join University Centre Shrewsbury for their degree studies in the next few years.”
