Tayleur Arms begins £1.2m rise from the ashes
The historic Tayleur Arms pub, in Shropshire, will today begin its £1.2m rise from the ashes – almost a year to the day it was burned to the ground.

Publicans Richard and Eve Harvey who ran the original Tayleur Arms, plus Enterprise Regional Manager Paul Boswell and Divisional Director Richard Woodward will all be present to witness a digger turning the first sod at the site in Cotwall Road, Longdon-upon-Tern, near Telford.
The pub burned down in a fire that started on the evening of Wednesday 19 March 2014. Parts of the original were believed to be more than 300-years-old.
Richard Harvey and his wife Eve, said:
“We’re both so excited and emotional that the time has arrived for The Tayleur Arms to begin its comeback.
“It’s a popular, much-loved pub, and its return is highly anticipated. The response and support we’ve received from the local community following the fire has been phenomenal, and we really can’t wait to open the doors to them at the new-look Tayleur Arms.”
Though the shape of the building will be different, the pub will be the same size as the original, allowing for a large car park and outdoor area. Inside, the pub will offer ample space to cater for family dining and groups with a 47 cover lounge dining area plus an additional 46 covers in a separate dining area.
There will also be a large dedicated bar area for those wishing to enjoy a drink. The exterior will be a traditional construction of brick and timber panels with the interior style being more contemporary, while Richard and Eve’s home-cooked food, which the original pub was well known for, will be a menu staple.
Enterprise Regional Manager Paul Boswell added:
“Following a fairly complex planning and design process, we’re thrilled to see this project achieve lift off. We’ve worked closely with Richard and Eve, and we’re all very excited about seeing the brand new pub, when it opens its doors for business later in the year.
“Historically, the pub has been a great success, and we’re confident the new Tayleur Arms will achieve similar popularity.”
