Police are investigating a suspicious incident at a funfair held at Whitchurch Rugby Club, which left a 12 year old girl upset and distressed.

12-year-old grabbed by man at Whitchurch Funfair

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 5.15pm on Saturday 18 April 2015, where a 12-year-old girl was approached by a man. The girl was at the funfair with friends when she was approached by the man on a grass verge who grabbed her arm and pulled her.

The girl was left upset and distressed by the incident, but was able to break free from his grip and left the fair otherwise unharmed making her way home.

The man left the funfair and then walked along a footpath and cycle lane which runs from Edgley towards Wayland Close passing a busy children's play area.

The man is believed to be white, in his 40's, of medium build with dark hair, and was wearing a grey hooded style top, and grey jogging or tracksuit bottoms, and may have had a lower tooth missing or a gap in his lower teeth.

Detective Sergeant Rob Mountford, Shrewsbury CID said:

"We believe the fair was still busy at that time, and the area concerned was busy with walkers and people enjoying the sunshine. We would ask anyone to contact West Mercia Police with any information that they have, or if they believe they have seen this man during the afternoon concerned or know of his identity."

Extensive enquiries have been conducted into the incident including house to house enquiries, CCTV and officers speaking with potential witnesses.

Anyone with information can contact West Mercia Police, Shrewsbury CID on 101, quoting incident reference number 0525 of 18 April 2015 or contact Crimestoppers.
