Postal ballot papers have been despatched to over 38,000 people living in Telford and Wrekin, as well as the part of Shropshire in the Wrekin constituency, to have their say in the elections on Thursday 7 May.

Telford and Wrekin Council sends out over 38,000 postal ballot papers

Residents in Telford and Wrekin are voting in Parliamentary, Borough and Town and Parish Council elections.

Since the ballot papers were issued, the Council has already received more than 1,150 votes which are being verified and checked – although no votes will be counted before close of poll on 7 May.

Not all postal voters will received three ballots because some Town and Parish Council wards are not being contested. All Telford & Wrekin Borough Council wards are being contested on 7 May.

For those people who have not registered for a postal vote, polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on Thursday 7 May. Although it is not necessary, it always helps if voters take their polling cards to the polling station where they will be provided with voting papers. Some voters may find that their polling station location has changed and they should check their polling cards for this information.

Returning Officer for the elections in Telford & Wrekin Richard Partington said: “The early return of postal votes means that we can make all the necessary security checks in preparation for the count after the election on 7 May.

“At the last European election in 2014 more than a hundred postal votes were lost as they were returned too late to be counted. It’s really important that people send them back to us as soon as possible.”
