Trust recognises more of its “Winter Heroes”
Dozens more staff at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust who went beyond the call of duty during the winter have been recognised in a second SaTH Winter Heroes awards ceremony.

SaTH Winter Heroes was born from “Christmas Crackers” - a way for staff to recognise colleagues who made a big difference over the festive period. The response was so high the deadline was extended and the award became Winter Heroes.
The Trust received about 70 nominations for individuals and teams across the organisation. Around half were celebrated during a ceremony at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital yesterday (Tuesday 28 April, 2015). The others were recognised at an event at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford last week.
Amongst those recognised at this week’s ceremony were Becky Gwynne from X-ray; Vikki Doris, Clinical Site Manager, and Hannah Calderbank from A&E. While off duty, Becky, Vikki and Hannah, were called into action when a gentleman had a seizure in front of them at Liverpool station and stopped breathing. The three attended to the man immediately and got as far as putting defibrillator paddles on him before he began breathing again.
Also honoured were staff on Ward 24E, 25G and members of the Catering team at RSH. They worked together to ensure a couple who were both in hospital, but on the two different wards, were able to spend their Diamond Wedding together. Thanks to the efforts of staff, the couple spent the whole afternoon together with a special meal and members of their family were able to visit them throughout the day.
A full list of winners, along with their photographs and citations, can be found on the news section of our website at www.sath.nhs.uk
Peter Herring, Chief Executive at SaTH, said: "Some of the nominations for our staff were very specifically winter-focussed and highlight just how important these roles are in helping to ensure we provide the best care possible at our busiest times. Other nominations are for things which colleagues felt really made a difference or fulfilled our Trust Values of Proud to Care, Make it Happen, We Value Respect and Together We Achieve."
